The James Houston Center for Faith and Successful Aging is a 501(C)(3) faith-based organization located in Birmingham. Its mission is to provide practical, evidence-based resources to enhance the spiritual, emotional, economic, health, and well-being of elders and their caregivers. The Center partners with congregations across Alabama to equip and empower them in caring for seniors in their community and beyond, desiring that each congregation be age-friendly.
AgeReady, which was developed by the Center, is a dynamic, interactive tool designed to help older adults and their families plan for the challenges and joys of aging
AgeReady offers an alternative approach for addressing life challenges that accompany aging. It empowers older adults and their families to anticipate and prepare for their needs as they age, ensuring safer, more fulfilling aging experiences in environments of their choice. The platform promotes best practices for maintaining cognitive and physical health, and encourages engagement in the social, emotional, economic, and spiritual dimensions of life. AgeReady improves outcomes for older adults and helps ease the challenges for families who support them.
The core of AgeReady is a structured list of tasks that anticipate the many challenges that come with aging. Older adults may complete these tasks on their own or with family members. These tasks are supplemented by resources curated by an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts.
The tasks are divided into four different domains: Medical, Legal/Financial, Family/Social, and Spiritual. Each of the four domains includes various tasks, which are important for the older adult to address. Each task includes a list of resources, which are available for educational purposes to help older adults and their families make more informed decisions.
AgeReady is FREE. You will not incur any costs in using the platform. Also, aside from your name, email address, and birthday, AgeReady DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY ADDITIONAL PERSONAL INFORMATION. It does offer the option for you to enter additional personal information on the platform, but that is at your discretion. Also, you are allowed to provide others, such as family members, to view your information by adding them to your profile.
