Churchwide Updates: James K.A. Smith at Mountain Brook Baptist

 |  Meet Our New Member  |  Dr. Wayne Splawn

On Sunday, February 1, we have the privilege of hosting James K.A. Smith at Mountain Brook Baptist Church thanks to the enduring generosity of Bill and Wylodine Hull and their family. James K.A. Smith is a professor in the philosophy department at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Smith is a world-class theologian who has written widely acclaimed books in recent years. He is the author of How Not to Be Secular: Reading Charles Taylor, which won Christianity Today’s award for Book of the Year in 2015, and his most recent book, How to Inhabit Time: Understanding the Past, Facing the Future, Living Faithfully Now, applies the wisdom of Ecclesiastes to help us understand how we might live our lives faithfully for God’s Kingdom.

I’ve personally benefited from Smith’s writing and used one of his books in leading a recent growth group. I hope you will make plans to attend worship on Sunday, February 1, at 9 or 11 a.m., at which James will be preaching, as well as our special event and dinner later that afternoon. The afternoon event begins at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary, followed by dinner in Heritage Hall. To learn more and register, visit this link.
