What does it look like to host a Trunk?
Show up early with your car. During the Event, greet Trunk-or-Treaters, plan a small activity or game for your Trunk-or-Treaters, and hand out candy.
Do I need to have a really nice or big car to participate?
No, any vehicle with a trunk will do. We have even had people decorate tables and set up a game instead of using their trunk. The main thing we want is YOU: you’re going to greet Trunk-or-Treaters, interact with them with an activity, and hand out candy.
Do I have to buy my own candy?
We'll have a bag of candy for you to hand out (about 250 pieces) but we welcome you to provide additional candy. If there is a type of candy that fits your Trunk's theme, if you want to be known as the Trunk with the "good candy" or if you just want to have some extra, then we invite you to bring some with you! Feel free to bring candy alternatives like stickers or fruit snacks. If you know of someone who would like to contribute candy before the event, there is a collection spot at the Front Desk.
Can I be scary? Does my car need to have a biblical theme?
There is no requirement to be biblical, but please avoid anything that reminds people of the “dark” side of Halloween. Also, please avoid anything that may be scary for younger kids (ghosts, witches, goblins, etc.). When a child first sees your Trunk, we hope they are excited, not scared.
Do I need to go to huge lengths to decorate?
Not necessarily. Obviously, we love to see creative, wacky, and wonderful Trunks but once again, the main thing is friendly and welcoming church members handing out candy to our community. You may want to dress up yourself to add to the fun. Remember, please avoid anything that would be scary to a Preschooler. For some creative theme ideas, contact Ethan McVay (ethan@mbbc.org).
When do I need to arrive at the church on Sunday and when can I leave?
Have your vehicle at the church no later than 3:15 p.m. Trunk or Treat will end at 6 p.m - we'd love for you to stay until we start packing up everything (probably 6:15 p.m).
What do I do when I arrive? Should I bring anything?
We assign parking spots for Trunk-or-Treat so when you arrive we will direct you to a spot. Each trunk will have at least one parking space to park in, but we try to provide a second to everyone. You can spread out if you need more space for the activity. Please bring camping chairs if you’d like to sit during the event.
Do I need to stay with my car the whole time?
Yes! If you need to be away from your vehicle, find a friend to “man” your trunk. We want to make these interactive, so you might want to enlist a friend or a group of friends to help you! In the past, Sunday Morning Bible Study classes have joined together as a Trunk.
Can a motorcycle or truck participate?
Absolutely! A decorated Harley would be awesome!
Do I need to wear a mask?
Since we'll be outdoors, we will leave it up to you and let it be your decision as far as wearing a mask goes, based on your comfort level.
What is our main goal?
To share the love of Christ, connect with the people who attend the event, and have LOTS of fun. As we fellowship, try to get to know the people who enter your trunk area and pray for all who gather on that day!
