Churchwide Updates: Where Does My Time Go?

October 28, 2026
Dr. Wayne Splawn

Most of us recognize that time seems to go by more quickly in certain seasons of life. We understand that time never speeds up or slows down, but our experience of time doesn’t always seem to align with this reality. For example, time seems to go by more quickly during a vacation when compared with our normal routines of life. As you pack up the car following a week’s vacation at the beach or mountains, you may find yourself asking, “Where did the time go?”

During this season in which we think about stewardship, it is wise to consider how we are investing our time. Time is a person’s most valuable resource. We can’t do anything to make more of it, and when a second ticks off the clock, there is no way to recover it. A wise person recognizes the value of time and seeks to invest it faithfully. This is the truth we see in Psalm 90:12, which reads:

So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom. (ESV)

How are you investing your time in the life of Mountain Brook Baptist Church? We are a volunteer organization that relies on people to invest their time in many ways. We need people to teach Sunday School, lead growth groups, stream our services, visit homebound members, serve on committees, and participate in countless other ministry opportunities.

Set aside time to prayerfully consider how you are investing your time in the mission and ministries of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Evaluate your answer to the question, “Where does my time go?” Rest assured, we need your faithful participation in the life of our church to be the congregation we know God would have us to be.
