Cooks On A Mission

Cooks On A Mission is a ministry of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. We share the love of Christ by supporting several ministries and organizations in the Birmingham area, as well as the MBBC congregation.

We fund our work by cooking and freezing food items for which our congregation, family and friends make donations. Typically we offer a casserole such as Baked Ziti or Boeuf Bourguignon, a soup, and a breakfast item such as scones. All of our food is made from scratch, with fresh ingredients. We offer gift certificates upon request, and our food makes a wonderful gift.

Our freezer is located outside the church kitchen's back door, so you can grab delicious, ready-to-go items anytime during receptionist hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.).

LATEST PROJECTS

Backpack Buddies and Family Food Boxes

Working in partnership with MBBC’s Missions Committee, COAM helps purchase, pack, and deliver a weekly bag of food for more than 70 children at Grantswood Community School who have been identified by their school counselors as being at risk of being hungry. In addition, COAM funds, packs, and delivers 150 monthly family food boxes at Oliver Elementary School. We also provide hygiene kits, coats and shoes as needed. Sign up to help deliver Backpack Buddies here.

The WellHouse

We provide meals and other supplies for the residents of this shelter, who have been rescued from human trafficking. In the past, many of the ladies have been able to cook alongside us, and our mid-day lunch and prayer time with these ladies is one of our favorite times. We have been able to maintain contact and periodic support for many of those who have graduated from the program and are living independently.

First Responders Ministry

Each month, we provide cakes and occasional meals as thanks and encouragement for first responders in our community, including local fire stations, police, state troopers, sheriff’s deputies and the National Guard Base.

UAB/Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Each year, we provide all of the side dishes for the Thanksgiving Feast for families with infants in the NICU.

Camp Seale Harris

We sponsor two children to attend this camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes.

Red Mountain Grace

We provide freezer food for clients of two Red Mountain Grace apartments. Red Mountain Grace provides apartments around Birmingham for those in town for long-term medical treatments.

YOU CAN HELP!

  1. Foremost, pray for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and to share the gospel with those we work with, and those we encounter as we shop, etc.
  2. Participate in the monthly food pickup on the third Wednesday of each month. The donations received for the food provide all of the funds for these projects.
  3. Help us deliver Backpack Buddies to Grantswood Community School.
  4. Volunteer to help cook.
  5. Help us bake and deliver cakes to first responders.
