Dr. Joe Lewis
Dr. Lewis has been with Mountain Brook Baptist Church since 2009. He is responsible for our Wednesday Night Bible Study.
After finishing his doctoral studies in Old Testament at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1965, he taught at SBTS (1965-66), Cumberland College (1966-68), and Georgetown College (1968-1992) (all in Kentucky) before coming to Samford University as Dr. Hull's Associate Provost in 1992. He served his last three years at Samford University before retirement in 2002 as Acting Provost. He continues to do some work wtih colleges and universities as a consultant on accreditation issues in addition to his work here on Wednesday nights.
He and his wife, Shirley, have been married since 1959 and have two sons and four grandchildren. When Joe plays reasonably well, he enjoys golf; at other times he enjoys reading, teaching the Bible and pulling for the Auburn, Alabama, and Samford football and basketball teams.
