MBBC’s Women’s Ministry has developed a relationship with Grantswood Community School in Irondale over the past couple of years. Now, we want to take that relationship churchwide. We are calling this ministry Love Grantswood, and there is a place for you! The majority of the 350 students at Grantswood come from low-income families, and many have no adult male in the home. Despite the many challenges these students and their families may face, they have limitless God-given potential. Through Love Grantswood, we hope to empower these families to break the cycle of poverty and to succeed as they take personal responsibility for their future. This is how we Love Grantswood!
Can you invest 30 minutes once a week to transform the life of a student? This is an informal opportunity where MBBC members, especially men, will get to eat breakfast with a student, get to know them, and just be a friend. Most of these children are rarely interact with doctors, lawyers, bankers, accountants, etc. or even people who have been to college, so pairing those students with MBBC folks has a huge potential upside. In this program,MBBC volunteers would pick a day of the week and go have breakfast at the school from 7:15-7:45am. The cost of breakfast is $2.25. Sign up by emailing Sherrie Futch (firstname.lastname@example.org).
MBBC members sign up to go to the school on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings to read with students who need a little extra help. No teaching experience is necessary – just a love for Jesus and a willingness to serve. Contact Meredith Cale (email@example.com) to sign up or visit this page for more information.
We will be starting a Backpack Buddies program at Grantswood to help eliminate food instability. We want every child to thrive, so we will be sending home bags of nutritious, child-friendly food with students who are at risk of going hungry over the weekend. We need volunteers to pack the bags and deliver them to Grantswood each week. Sign up by visiting this link!
This is how we Love Grantswood. Won’t you join us?
