A COMMUNITY OF LOVING ONE ANOTHER

What does the future hold? What about new friends? Challenging Bible study? Productive ways of service? And frequent fun-filled activities? That’s right, all these are ahead  as you participate in all the programs/activities for ACTIVE Christian Living for adults age 55 and up. Join others as we strive to make 2017 a productive year.

Everyone in the church is eager to discover what ACTIVE Christian Living adults are doing. Ministries for this age group offer learning and serving opportunities. A special part of the ministries are the monthly luncheon programs held the second Thursday of each month at 11:30am in Heritage Hall. All adults age 55 and up are encouraged to participate for a time of good food, fellowship and an outstanding presentation by a guest speaker on topics of interest to this age group.

The Mellow Brook Singers rehearse each Thursday at 10:30am in Hudson Hall.  No audition required, just a love of music and the willingness to make a joyful noise to the Lord! Lunch ($6) is served each week following rehearsal.  Call the church office to get complete details on all the activities and to make reservations.

You can make a difference in the lives of others by being a friend, by sharing your experiences, and by making your "ACTIVE" years a time of learning and growing. The year 2017 will be a great year as ACTIVE adults resolve to be more productive by participating in the activities planned especially for adults  age 55+.

Thurs-Day “Fry”-Day!

Thursday, July 20 6pm Heritage Hall

Get ready for our annual July event! The event will be very casual. Wear your shorts and flip flops! This year our event will be catered by Yo’ Mama’s. Yo’ Mama’s started as Jazzy Fish & Chicken at the famous Seabreeze Jazz Festival in Destin and Panama City in 2007. Each year Jazzy Fish and Chicken was the most popular vendor. Eventually Jazzy Fish & Chicken became a restaurant in downtown Birmingham, known as Yo’ Mama’s. Yo’ Mama’s was opened in the winter of 2015 by Denise Peterson and her daughter Crystal. Crystal said, “I guess you could say our thing is just meals made fresh. These are all Mama’s recipes, and she makes everything in house from scratch.” Yo’ Mama’s will offer you the choices of fried fish, fried chicken or a grilled hamburger. These will be served with slaw, fries and hushpuppies. To top off our meal, banana pudding will be our dessert. The parking lot will be set up with tents for Yo’Mama’s to cook our dinner and we will eat in Heritage Hall. There will be special entertainment following our meal. Yo’ Mama’s was voted 2016 Best of Birmingham for lunch. The cost is $12 per person. Make your reservations for friends and family today!

Join us for a tour of Cathedral Caverns  Woodville, AL

Thursday, August 17   8:15 am   $18  and money for lunch

Let's keep cool and enjoy a drive to Woodville, AL, for a guided tour (wheelchair accessible) of the majestic Cathedral Caverns. It was opened as a State Park in the summer of 2000.  The first feature most people notice about Cathedral Caverns is its massive entrance. The huge opening measures 126 feet wide and 25 feet high, a possible world record for commercial caves. The grand entrance is only the beginning. Inside the cavern are some of the most beautiful formations ever created including “Goliath”- one of the largest stalagmites in the world measuring 45 feet tall and 243 feet in circumference.   Cathedral Caverns features many amazing sites:  a "caveman" perched atop a flowstone wall, a "frozen" waterfall, a large stalagmite forest and a most improbable stone formation - a stalagmite that is 27 feet tall and 3 inches wide! The cave maintains a comfortable 60 degrees temperature year round. (alpark.com)
